ADDIE
Analysis: The users of my blog site are my elementary students and parents, I am unsure of what grade I will be teaching next year so I will just use my first grade students from last year as a base. Parents are always asking me if there are resources on the computer to help with certain subjects. I have many bookmarks of really great education websites that align with curriculum I teach that will enhance my students skills and knowledge. Therefore I hope to post links to the websites as we are learning about various topics for the students and parents to use as a resource. Along with this I hope to keep a blog of new skills we have learned along with comments from some of the students about what they have learned. I will post the links to the websites along with what we have learned as a supplement. I have seen similar posts on district websites that have web resources but nothing this detailed and specific for my students and parents. Some performance drivers that will prevent them from the blog are accessibility to the Internet, depending on where I teach parents may or may not have easy access to Internet. Knowledge of subscribing to blogs, parents may not be familiar with this technology. Parental involvement, parents may not be involved in their child’s education and therefore will not use the resource.
Design: When users visit this website they will access the websites provided to supplement what they are learning in the classroom. It is a recurring effort I hope to post weekly with new sites and information about what we are learning about that week.
Development: I will use various tools to enhance the site, I will as I discussed provide hyper links to resources, educational video segments that may relate to the units of study, or video segments of the students talking about what they have been learning about. Possibly a podcast of the students reading or giving facts. I will customize the site for what we are studying at the time, or for the time of year, possibly changing the photos in the header to be more festive. I am happy about my idea and think it will be a great resource for my parents!
Implementation: I will introduce it to the class at Back to school night, while I am explaining the curriculum for the year to the parents. To my students I will introduce it within the first week of school in a presentation showing them the site and examples of what they have to look forward to. I do not think I have to get permission, but I will definitely let the head of school know what I am doing and how it will help with my classroom.
Evaluation: A few months after I have implemented the blog I will send a survey to the parents asking them how the site is helping them with resources for their child. I will ask them how often they access the site and for additional feedback of what they like and do not like about the site. I will then ask the students in class to have their parents help them leave a comment on a posting to see how many are able to access the blog. Additionally I will ask the students in my class if they use the blog and to tell me some of their favorite sites they have accessed.
